During the first few days of the New Year most tend to feel fresh, rejuvenated and ready to take on the world by starting workout plans, getting a new wardrobe or vowing to change hard to kick habits. The easiest way to partake in this Feel-Good yearly trend is to set your sights on your own home. Revamp your space for the New Year for a nice change that will start the year off on a good note and be a daily inspiration for you to make improvements elsewhere in your life where needed. Both easy ways that make an impact and methods that take a bit more time but are well worth it, we cover a list of ideas ranked from Easy to Advanced on how to revamp your home and to help you welcome in the New Year on a positive note.

Change up Your Wall Color

Difficulty: Easy

An easy and classic way people have been making over their homes since what seems like the beginning of time, adding a fresh coat of paint to the walls in your home may be just the thing you need to really amp you up for the new year and bring a nice change to your space.

If you’re apprehensive about cracking open the paint can, remember that it’s not the end of the world if you don’t like your new wall color – a lot of the time, especially when it comes to our home, dramatic alterations (such as wall color changes) we tend to reject or feel uncomfortable with and that’s completely normal! Give it a few weeks to see if the new color grows on you as you adjust and if it doesn’t, no biggie, just paint back over it with your original color. To avoid unnecessary stress if you end up choosing to go back to your original color, make it a point to take a photo of your walls before so you can have a professional tell you what shade your walls were originally so you can match it perfectly. So what do you have to lose? Take a risk, it will be a fun adventure.

Another less intimidating option that has equally as much impact is wallpaper. Get the look of precise patterns that you couldn’t otherwise achieve with paint. See this video with helpful wallpaper installation tips here

Lose the Wall

Difficulty: Advanced

In nearly every home there is at least one wall that could go missing and no one would blink an eye. open up your space making it appear larger and more airy. If you’re ready to start your year with a challenge that will reap immense results, consider knocking down a wall or two in your home. A common location that is often targeted is the kitchen to make it more open and inviting. Of course this shouldn’t be a split second decision and you will want to put a lot of thought into it and ask yourself questions such as which wall to break down and if you have the finances to take on such a project. It’s also important to ask other occupants of your home what they think of the idea if you have a spouse or roommates. Unfortunately, this is not an option if you are renting a home, that is of course unless you contact your landlord first and get permission to go for it (in a perfect world, right?)

Crown Molding

Difficulty: Intermediate

Crown molding is one of those projects that will instantly  make your home appear more polished and upscale. The most difficult part of adding crown molding to your home will be to choose the right type that will be right for your space. Typically known for adding a more traditional feel, if you really want to maintain a contemporary ambiance, ask yourself if you would mind it being toned down by crown molding.

If you have lower walls, it would be best to skip this option. Typically, only high ceilings are able to hold their own when crown molding is installed in comparison to lower walls which look a bit more stout and frumpy with the molding appearing to drag them down. A huge characteristic of crown molding is it adds visual weight to your walls which tends to exclusively compliment higher ceilings. If you think your walls are of a reasonable height, rest assured it will be a positive addition to your home.

A great thing about crown molding is that it’s extremely versatile. Install it into any area of your home to have it instantly enhanced – windows, walls, even fireplaces can be upgraded with a nice molding, the options are endless when you are deciding on where exactly to install. We suggest that for walls especially if you choose to go this route, have your entire home be uniform and install molding throughout your house for a more seamless and clean look. This is definitely a project you don’t want to stop in the middle of or risk having your home look slightly off and unbalanced, so push through!

Tip: With any large home revamp project, set firm deadlines so you can hold yourself accountable and are more likely to finish within a reasonable amount of time – don’t find yourself caught in the dreaded “I’ll finish it up next weekend” cycle

If you are limited to only being able to swap out one faucet, the specific one you should go with varies depending on what is more important to you – do you prioritize the look of your space as a whole, or your own personal comfort?
