Christmas is around the corner, and you can never have too many decorations to help uplift your mood and put you more in the Christmas spirit. From big decorations to small detailed ones that often seem to go unnoticed, they all work together to create the perfect seasonal home decor and really have your home look like you’re in the wonderful midst of Christmas time. Check out our list of interior decorating ideas to help you take your Christmas home decor to the next level.
Get a few canvases to help dress up your walls this holiday season that are Christmas themed. Perfect for setting up in your living room for all to see, or in your own bedroom for you to enjoy alone, Christmas art on canvas around your home will be a pleasant reminder of Christmas time on the walls all around you. Purchase professionally made canvas art on your own for a seamless fresh look, or DIY it to have the satisfaction of knowing you created the finish product on your own (and maybe mild bragging rights). Don’t limit yourself and think you have to stick to only images on canvas, cheerful text or elaborate patterns can do just the trick just as well.
Lights don’t just have to stay on the Christmas tree or outdoors! Venture out from the norm and decorate your home with Christmas lights to turn it into a twinkling wonderland. Christmas lights are known for dramatically enhancing any area they are placed without requiring much effort. Drape the lights in areas that are often neglected when decorating for the holidays like hallways, kitchens or window sills. Feel free to get creative and drape them behind chiffon curtains to create a magical glow or fill them inside of different kinds of see through glass decor like jars or vases.
Have your home chandelier take center stage (aside from the tree of course) this year by taking some extra time to really decorate it. A chandelier is underrated in that it’s the perfect foundation to feature Christmas decorations since it already has a pleasant glow to it. Fit your chandelier with special ornaments that will reflect the light beautifully or with some eye catching branches – go for faux if you prefer picture perfect longevity, or opt for real branches of pine or berries to have that natural fresh scent wafting through your living room or dining room. Not sure where to get branches? The answer is closer than you think. Cut off a few branches on your tree in a way so that it will be unnoticeable and weave them through your chandelier until you get the desired effect in your home.
Take your living room up a notch with a few decorative pillows. Similar to the canvases, feel free to go whatever route when picking out designs – this is the part where you can get creative and really make your overall home holiday theme your own. Do you want funny pillows with Christmas themed puns, refreshing cartoon pillows of Rudolph that remind you of your childhood or modern chic Christmas designs? It’s all up to you! Although you can choose ambiguous pillows that will fit on your couch for every season, we suggest picking pillows that are exclusively for Christmas time, and get packed away until next year at the end of the season – it helps make the season – and your living room that much more magical.
Who says ornaments are just for Christmas trees? Select a few varied ornaments to not go on the Christmas tree when decorating and set them aside to integrate them into your overall home decor. Place them in a decorative bowl to showcase in your dining room and add branches or plastic berries for an added flair. You can also hang them on a string and drape them across furniture, walls, stairways and the list goes on. We recommend using shatter free (or plastic) ornaments to reduce the risk of unwanted breaks that can come with glass ornaments. Glass ornaments + being decorated around the house could easily spell for disaster. If you only decorate your tree with glass ornaments, consider buying a small assortment of ornaments that will solely be used for miscellaneous decoration.
And there you have it!
What are you waiting for? Get to decorating, your home awaits!
